Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse (ACTS)

“The Church has the right, indeed the duty,, to proclaim justice on the social, national and international level, and to denounce instances of injustice, when the fundamental rights of people and their very salvation demand it.”  (36) World Synod of Bishops, 1971)
One way in which SJW carries out its commitment to social justice is through its membership in The Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse (ACTS).  ACTS is a faith-based coalition of diverse faith congregations, organizations, and people of conscience working together to address the social, economic, educational and political inequities in our community.

Our Core Team members may serve on task forces that work on specific social justice issues, represent our parish at our organizational meetings, and help to educate and involve the parish regarding social justice issues affecting our community.

We are funded by dues from member congregations, a grant from CCHD (Catholic Campaign for Human Development), and individual donors.

If you have a heart for social justice and seek to apply your faith values to ameliorating the inequities experienced by many of our brothers and sisters, please consider joining us!  All are welcome.  No experience necessary.  You will also have the opportunity to meet and work with people from diverse faith congregations and backgrounds and to become connected to the larger community of which we are a part.

For information or questions contact Karen Machell at 457-6868 or klmachell@gmail.com.  To learn more about ACTS, go to our website:  www.acts-syracuse.org.
